On conquests
Quietly we all understand conquest, heirarchy and the law of the jungle. The Language of GodThe laws of physics are the language of God, not religion...Should Black history month become human history month?
It’s getting to be that time of the year when I like to renew my call for Black history month to become Human History month.
I think black history month should be replaced with human history month for a couple of reasons. First, there is the argument by some, all history is relevant so what makes the history of black people so special as to have a month designated for its study? In reality everything that has happened or that black people continue to go through, every other race has experienced too. Rather the issue is slavery, being denied employment or being segregrated, other races in other periods of time have went through the same types of things. I also think that with the way things are going with humanity we should be thinking in terms of what we would like to preserve and pass on in case we virtually destroy ourselves and or experience a near extinction level event, self inflcited or otherwise.
The main reason though, I would like to see a human history month is that I am looking for ways to remind humanity there are larger issues that actually should unite humanity rather than divide us. A human history month if planned right could be a very good thing, I hope at least.
I think human suffering is relative and I believe as one goes, eventually so we will all go.
And I also think that what are the problems of one race today, tomorrow will be the problems of another race, then 'those people' will have the problems, until eventually you and yours will have the problem. Until we realize we are all in this together, we are vulnerable and likely to self destruct in my humble opinion.
Societal Scapegoats
The scapegoat was a goat that was driven off into the wilderness as part of the ceremonies of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, in Judaism during the times of the Temple in Jerusalem. The rite is described in Leviticus 16. The word is more widely used as a metaphor, referring to someone who is blamed for misfortunes, generally as a way of distracting attention from the real causes.
Why yes the infamous scapegoat! I also heard a story once that the name scapegoat came from a breed of goats that faints when startled or threatened. The story I heard was that these goats would be mixed in with the flocks of sheep, then when the wolves came looking for an easy meal of lamb, the goats would faint and thus be easy prey for the wolves giving the more favored sheep time to escape. Rather ingenious I would say, cold though I think too. These are not the scapegoats of which I am referring though. I am thinking about the people that are considered members of the so called subgroups in the U.S. and of the various other "civilized societies" around the world for that matter. I speak of the skateboard kids, the black kids in baggy clothes that are hip hopped-out, POOR WHITE PEOPLE, the gay communities, ex-cons, drug addicts, the welfare recipients, bloggers of late are being increasingly targeted, the long hair types, movies, rock n roll, political dissidents, activists, the outspoken, the free spirited etc. Any and all that are targeted for ridicule, scorn, beatings, pushing around, harrassment, embarrassments, plain old hate and death because of the way they look or personal philosophies, life styles, etc. Those who are increasingly subjected to vigilante style law enforcement from certain officers of the law. Those that get targeted and vented on by teachers, principals, rent-a-cops, disgruntled citizens and neighbors, the news media, and the various other mainstream "authority" types, i.e. probation officers and correctional staff. All these people in the aforementioned subgroups and more are easy targets for people higher up on the food chain, the mainstream "authority" types to vent their rage on. Rage, I would humbly assert they are afraid to target at those whom are really responsible for them feeling powerless, overwhelmed, trapped and increasingly miserable. As I have wrote before I don't know who declared that human sacrificing is a practice of barbaric and primitive peoples of the past because clearly this is not so. There are many people in a lot of societies across the world being mistreated and sacrificed for things that are not their faults and beyond their control. Many people are being sacrificed daily around the world for various reasons, mainly greed though; cowardice is a close second as many people fight wars of and for those who would never voluntarily engage in mortal combat. For there to be so many self proclaimed religious nations in the world there sure is not a lot of what religion teaches going on in 'OUR' world. Ecologically speaking, why is oil in the ground?
I am no scientist but I have a (wild ass guess) or WAG, about pumping so much oil out of the ground. I do not know for sure why there is oil in the ground but it is there for a reason. My WAG is it has to do with maintaining the earth’s core temperature, much like radiator fluid does in a car engine, among other possibilities. I wonder what the long and short term consequences of oil consumption will have that humanity cannot see or foresee?? We can see well what oil exploration, manufacturing, use and spills do. I wonder what is going on inside the earth from pulling all that oil out of the ground???
Ron Paul quote "Truth is treason in an empire of lies"
Source: YouTube via blacklistednews.com I am tired of hearing Americans are dumbIt seems to be popular in the world today to insult and ridicule the American people’s intelligence levels or lack thereof, even among Americans. There are any number of comedy/reality shows that entertain by having people look stupid in America. I have heard many, many media types, from talk show hosts, reporters, politicians, etc. insult intelligence levels in America too.
This boggles my mind because it is no secret that the number one place Americans are to be educated, our schools, mostly are in disarray, this is no State Secret. The second place Americans receive what supposedly is to be reliable information is the TV. That to, even among its own ranks is known not be reliable. They all know “spin” is a euphemism for lying, yet freely and in many cases admittedly, engage in the use of spinology. So long story short Americans are being left out of the loop and being called stupid for it but left to pay the consequences for that which we are kept in the dark about. Another word comes to mind for me to describe the situation in which more than 2/3 of Americans now find ourselves in, victims. And there is some big time trashing of the victim going on in society right now.
Let’s debate about another subject that effects intelligence, physical health, again another area in America that is largely paid a lot of lip service to but no real changes ever take place. Our food largely is bad for us, same with the water, pollution and toxins of all sorts bombard our bodily systems and all the rest of it that is going on. Physical health and that which influences it greatly affects our mental health, our moods and overall sense of well being as well. And lets talk about one more thing that greatly affects people's health, and that is stress which we all know, Americans are stressed at every level of our existence.
Rather than Americans being considered so stupid, maybe it should be considered that the plutocrats and banking elite are so good at being robber barons, that the American people just don’t stand a chance. I am tired of hearing Americans are dumb. President Bush, for what's it worth, I'd still have a beer with youOne may recall or not, that one of the selling points of President Bush's presidential campaign was that he was the type of guy American’s would like to have a beer and a barbeque with. Despite his recent showing in the polls, that 79% of Americans polled will not miss him when he leaves office. I would like to say I would still have a beer with the guy.
Why? One may ask. Well it would not be because I feel sorry for him, nor would it be to kiss up to a rich and powerful person.
The main reason I would have a beer with the guy is because I know what it is like to screw up and put ones self in hole so deep that no one would or could help if they tried. A hole so deep that the only way out is to help one’s self out. Put simply I still believe redemption is possible for almost anyone. Especially for someone who can dig themselves out of a mess and turn their life around. I believe President Bush can turn his legacy around significantly. They do things ‘Big in Texas’ I hear. We all know the President screwed up big but given his access to enormous resources and ability to influence, he has the potential to at least try and make-it-right big time. American’s are a forgiving people and believe in second chances. Americans will give just about anyone a second chance at a new beginning. I think this would be especially so for Mr. Bush. His family, in the legacy of his father has a history of taking big risks to do the right thing. In that his dad stood up to the good ol boys of Texas, standing up for the rights of black Americans during his congressional years.
In my imaginary barbeque with the President; after a couple of beers had loosed my tongue and the small talk had passed, I would say something like “you know Mr. President Katrina is where it all really, really started to go wrong for you. Do you have any plans to put in motion so you can try to make it better now?” I would go on to suggest that maybe he work with a star like Brad Pitt whom I have read has done heroic things for Katrina victims. I would also suggest he help those displaced by Katrina in his own state that are still struggling with housing, stability, jobs, medical care, etc. By now I am emboldened thanks to 5-6 beers and I would bring up his Freedom Institute. I would of course say “it is a good idea" to butter him up but would quickly add, "I only hope it’s not because the only place to find freedom now would be in a museum or institute”. I can only hope he would get my hint. By now because we had been playing the drinking game quarters, I’d be really drunk, and the liquid courage would cause me to really push the envelope. I would I bring up his recent pardon of a convicted drug dealer. And mention that I thought it was a good gesture and a good start to an all out effort to end the drug war. I would probably cite a few stats on the impact of the drug war and how I thought it should be stopped and if marijuana was legalized I would gladly smoke a big ole fatty of the “Texas tumble weed” with him any time he wanted. Perhaps when we hooked up the next time to go fishing, when we would discuss the Iraq war! I still believe in redemption. |
